Getting started

Understand workspaces and projects

Learn how account, workspace, project, and resource boundaries fit together.

Your account can belong to one or more workspaces, subject to plan limits. Each workspace has its own members, projects, labels, plan, and resources.

Resource ownership

  • Projects belong directly to a workspace.
  • Tasks and notes belong to projects, which place them inside the workspace.
  • Sketches and sheets belong to the workspace and may optionally be associated with a project.
  • Board columns belong to one project.
  • Calendar subscriptions belong to the individual user inside the active workspace.

The server checks your membership before reading or changing workspace data. Switching workspaces changes the active organization cookie only after membership is verified.

Roles

Owners control the workspace and its membership. Managers can perform selected workspace-management actions. Members work with permitted workspace content but cannot perform owner-only operations.

See Understand workspace roles for the current permission model.
